DR. DEWAYNE GAMMEL
Dr. Gammel is board certified in Family Medicine, and a diplomat of the American Academy of Family Practice. He is a member of the Southern Medical Association, Mississippi State Medical Association, and the Mississippi Academy of Family Practice. Dr. Gammel attended medical school at the University of Mississippi, and he completed his residency at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.
DR. STEVEN RUSHING
Dr. Rushing graduated from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1991 and completed his Family Medicine residency at the University of Tennessee in 1994. He is board certified in Family Medicine, and is also certified in ACLS, PALS and ATLS. He is currently a member of the Mississippi State Medical Association and American Academy of Family Physicians.
SHELBY LIPE, FNP
Shelby Lipe received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in nursing from The University of Mississippi Medical Center after working for many years as an associate’s degree registered nurse. She continued her education at the Medical Center completing a master’s degree in nursing with a focus on family practice and graduating Summa Cum Laude. Professional activities include serving as the District President for the Mississippi Nurses Association. She is nationally certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
MAGGIE TAYLOR, FNP
Maggie Taylor received a bachelor’s degree in nursing, graduating Magna Cum Laude, from The University of Mississippi Medical Center. After working for the next several years as a registered nurse, she went on to obtain her master’s degree in nursing from the Mississippi University for Women, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the Mississippi Nurses Association.
In addition to practicing at Crossroads Family Medicine, Maggie enjoys spending time with her husband and son, playing tennis, community involvement, and being outdoors.
JULIA JOHNSON, FNP
Julia Johnson received a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She then went on to further her career earning a Master of Science in Nursing, graduating with academic honors. Julia is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner credentialed by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She is a member of the Mississippi Nurse’s Association, Mississippi Association of Nurse Practitioners and American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
In addition to practicing at Tyler Holmes Carrollton Clinic, Julia enjoys spending time with her husband and children, teaching Sunday school at First Baptist Church of Winona, serving the community through Junior Auxiliary of Winona and playing tennis.
ELIZABETH KELLY, NP
Elizabeth Kelly received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS. She continued her education at Walden University completing a master’s degree in nursing, graduating magna cum laude. She is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with 26 years of nursing experience. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the Mississippi Nurses Association.
STEPHANIE MYERS, NP
Stephanie Myers received an Associates’s Degree in Nursing through Holmes Community College. After working for almost a decade in nursing care, she pursued her interest in advancing her nursing career and earned her Master’s Degree of Nursing through the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
She is certified through The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners National Certification Board. Stephanie is a member of the Mississippi Nurses Association.
Director of Pharmacy
Jessica graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2002 with a doctorate degree in pharmacy. She also graduated in 2000 from The University of Mississippi with a degree in pharmaceutical science. Before that she graduated from Mississippi State with a degree in biology and an associate degree from East Central Community college.
Jessica is the Director of Pharmacy at Tyler Holmes and loves being part of the team. Jessica loves direct patient care and enjoys taking care of people. She is also a certified immunizer. She attended the University of Utah to participate in a drug and alcohol school to learn and specialize in addiction studies.
She is married to Patrick Mooney, a commercial lender with M&F Bank. They have two sons Jeb and Jake Mooney. They are members of First Baptist Church. They love living on a 60-acre farm and enjoy a lot of family time outdoors.
COURTNEY BACKMAN, PT, DPT
Director of Rehab
Courtney Backman, originally from Grenada, MS, received her undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University with a B.S. in general science. She continued her education and earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Provo, Utah. Courtney has an extensive background in neurological rehab where she trained at University of Utah and Intermountain Neurological Rehab. She previously worked as an acute care physical therapist at St Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah where she served on the hospital falls committee and as lead PT on the stroke team.
Courtney is passionate about community involvement and served on the Community Development and Capital Improvement Board of Salt Lake City and was vice-chair of her local county precinct. She also served on the executive committee and as public relations director for a state-wide political organization. Courtney believes in being an advocate for the physically challenged and helping everyone to achieve their greatest quality of life.
Her hobbies include hiking, snow skiing, camping, cooking, traveling abroad, and spending time with her husband, Spencer Backman, and their two dogs. Her favorite thing about her job at THMH is the ability to work with people in various stages of their lives and health from young children to older adults. She says, “I am privileged to form relationships with people from all walks of life. I learn something new from each of my patients and strive to help them achieve their highest quality of life.”
